History and objectives of
Himalayan Traditions

Nomad Trading Company has worked personally and closely with the managers of the TRSHC over a long period of time to develop a "fair-trade pricing policy." We have accomplished this by having our own staff members live in the village which adjoins the TRSHC and working with them on a daily basis to establish a joint venture that encourages self-determination and profitability:

Our joint venture objectives are to:


  • Provide a global outlet for traditional Tibetan products made by Tibetan refugees.
  • Support the TRSHC and its programs.
  • Educate people around the world about how they can help Tibetan refugees.
 
TRSHC and Himalayan Traditions management team:
 
The Director of the TRSHC is Tibetan, as are all other management and staff at the Center and he holds a Master of Business Administration.

The Managing Director of Himalayan Traditions and Nomad Trading Company, LLP holds a Ph.D. in Economics and is also a CPA. One of the two Field Directors holds an MBA and the other holds a degree in Environmental Studies.

Himalayan Traditions and Nomad Trading Company operate in North America, Europe and Asia.

The prices paid by Himalayan Traditions to the TRSHC have been set at a level:

-include a profit-sharing percentage

-enables wages competitive with other desirable local occupations, encouraging a continuation of traditional crafts.

-covers all costs of materials, including support of Tibetan refugee sheep herders providing the wool.

-covers needed support of Tibetan refugees at the Center who are either too old to work or are disabled.

-provides for repair and maintenance of the Center's facilities.

-provides support for educational and social programs run by the Center for the refugees.

-covers all of the Center's overhead, and general and administrative expenses.
